For R&D: The ULTIMATE 5-Step Guide

Allchemist blog

Before Allchemist, it was impossible for formulators to search for the right materials, immediately formulate or reformulate the product, share their findings with colleagues and create (material) safety data sheets and labels in one simple and secure online platform.

That’s why we developed the only cloud-based platform that enables:

  • Simple search and comparison of raw materials (without manual data processing and waiting for the right information regarding the needed material).
  • Development and optimization of formulations (observe the change of parameters, price, and hazards of the formulation when adding materials).
  • Prompt composition and delivery of (material) safety data sheets, labels and safety instructions.

Allchemist helps you cover the whole development process – from an idea through mixing raw materials, creating a product you long thought of, or fast reformulation process and creation of the (material) safety data sheet.

Allchemist enables you to get a competitive product to the global market in record time. You’ll never have to wait for the right raw material information and manually process its data.

For the first time you now have the ability as a formulator to not only search materials by more than 1000 properties and 120 parameters, but actually “play” with endless possibilities.

By putting different materials in your new or existing formulation, you will immediately see a change of hazards, parameters like density, solids, VOC, pigment/binder ratio and price. All of that on one screen.

How can this guide help me?

This guide will help you to understand how easy it is to start your digital transformation of the R&D process.

We know how hard it is to begin something that seems very complex and we understand that you are already flooded with daily tasks.

That’s why this guide breaks the whole process down into easy-to-follow sections, so you can be efficient and get the most out of it, from the very beginning.

Follow the steps to learn how to find the right materials, formulate and create (material) safety data sheet – all in one secure digital platform. Allchemist is here to help.

Remember that there is a 30-day free trial, so there’s plenty of time for you to play around and get familiar with every Allchemist feature before you commit.

Why should I start using Allchemist? My organization is already using a similar search engine platform/marketplace?

Allchemist is not just a search engine for materials, nor an e-commerce platform or a marketplace.

Allchemist is a one-of-a-kind digital platform developed for the paints and coatings industry, and as such, we can’t compare it to anything else on the market.

AllchemistE-commerce platforms, marketplacesRaw materials search engines
The digital platform focused on product knowledge – searchable and comparable information & DATA on materials, formulations, and regulatory compliance.

Allchemist is a digital lab that enables you to virtually draft formulations. It acts as an R&D / technical support / regulatory compliance tool.

Allchemist provides you with a personalized experience which makes purchase decisions easier.

Platforms focused on making deals – price comparisons, buying & selling of materials.

These platforms are applicable mainly to commodities where the price is the most important decision criteria.

E-commerce platforms and marketplaces are useful in all cases when you’ve already decided what materials you want to buy.

Search engines act as yellow pages.

They offer limited search & browse options by product categories, ordering samples and contacting suppliers.

With these search engines, you can find materials but you end up with a bunch of technical data sheets that you have to process manually (open, read, and extract information) just to get the basic information about the product.

Sales teams usually juggle with documents, catalogs and datasheets. They go back and forth with papers, requiring many phone calls and emails with technical support before they can accommodate you with all the required data about a specific raw material.

This is tedious and it results in lost time, efficacy and revenue!

Working with Allchemist means working with data that is constantly updated in real time.

Outwin your competitors with Allchemist in 5 Easy Steps

Here we’ll take you through the steps that you’ll need to begin the digital transformation of your work processes.

We’ll show you our top tips for each step of the way. In no time at all, you’ll have this amazing formulation tool, and data always updated and stored in one place.

A tiny amount of effort to get started, a huge reward from there on out.

You won’t have to wait, call, send emails back and forth for gathering the right raw materials information and then manually compare it and process it.

Instead, you’ll be:

able to outwin the competitors by formulating products with better performance, lower hazards, and optimal price-performance faster than ever before.

able to save time and money by going to the actual lab only after the virtual formulation is done.

to work significantly more sustainable. Pre-lab “virtual experimentation,” will help you to narrow the number of actual, full-scale laboratory experiments needed to bring the right new product from concept to market.

1. Create an Allchemist account

This is your first step towards setting up your workspace.

All you have to do is click here and register.

You do so by entering your first and last name, email, a password of your choice and the name of the company for which you are currently working (if you are a freelancer, type in your name or the name of your organization).

After you agree with our terms and conditions, we’ll send an email to your given address.

Confirm the account by clicking on the link in your email. And you’re all set.

Note: We offer a 30-day free trial. For the free trial period, we do NOT require credit card information.

2. Set up your profile

In the upper-right corner, click on your name and choose Settings. You are now in your profile settings. There, you can:

  • Complete your profile (fill in the missing data).
  • Change your profile picture and company logo. That way your team members will know with whom they are collaborating.
  • Save your profile settings.

Note: To improve your experience in Allchemist and save yourself from irrelevant emails, we suggest that you subscribe to our Newsletter and fill in the missing profile data.

3. Set up your company profile

Creating your Company profile is easy and takes only a few minutes.

For editing the Company profile go to:

-Your name in the upper-right  corner and

-click on Company Admin from the dropdown menu.

Click on the Edit button of the Company Admin you want to edit.

In the Company profile, you can change or add information, including the name, address, postal code, telephone number, etc.

In the next tab, you can also set up the company address book.

4. Create your first formulation

To mix a new product, click “Create” and choose “Create a new formulation” option.

It only takes 7 steps to formulate or reformulate a brand new product.

From the Basic Info step to the Preview and Finalize.

All steps are pretty intuitive to use, for detail explanation of each step, please check out this page.

5. Not finding what you’re looking for?

Allchemist is the only digital platform that connects formulators and suppliers of the paint and coatings industry in one digital platform.

On one side suppliers and distributors publish their products portfolio data in the public part of Allchemist so that formulators on the other side can search and quickly get the right materials for their formulation in a convenient way.

This means suppliers and distributors are liable for the accuracy and relevancy of their data.

We strongly encourage suppliers and distributors to be thorough with data entry and contact information as well as with keeping the data always up to date.

But in real life, things are never 100%. That’s why it’s possible that your required material will not be available in the public database.

What can you do about it?

  • You can notify your supplier about missing raw material in Allchemist. Explain to them why is that info important to you and how will you both benefit out of it.
  • Enter the data on the missing raw material in your own private lab (you can share the access to it via workgroup of your colleagues and teammates if you wish so. Here is how you can enter data on the raw material yourself. It’s similar to formulating, with one tiny exception. Try it out, it’s super easy and fast. And once you have it in a digital form, you can use it forever. Keeping it updated is even easier – you just edit the material’s numbers that have changed.
  • You can send me an email with all the specification of the material you’re missing, and I’ll make sure it’s digitalized asap.

Additional Allchemist pro tip

If you’d like to organize your work with colleagues, please check out how work groups are working, how you invite workgroup colleagues and grand them different access permissions.
